April 22, Time2ACT!
On Wednesday April 22, we will team up with lots of Dutch celebrities and clean up the Dutch coastline!
On International Earth Day 2009, we will make a start with A Convenient Truth in reply to the gloomy message Al Gore has been sending out. The fact is we have to join forces in order to solve this global problem. Therefore, for the very first time we will bring together parties from all over the world to start finding a solution to the PLASTIC SOUP. There is an enormous amount of plastic waste floating around in the Pacific Ocean; it covers an area as big as a real continent (according to some, it is even twice the size of the USA) and poses a threat to all marine life and to our own health as well. Litter in the North Sea and the Wadden Sea is part of the same problem. Moreover, some of the plastic waste forming the Plastic Soup literally comes from the Netherlands. We throw plastic away, that plastic ends up in the sea and slowly drifts towards the Pacific Ocean where there is virtually no tide and the plastic accumulates and forms a ‘soup’. After more than 50 years, the consequences are incalculable. Or can we still avoid this disaster?
Yes, we can! It’s Time2ACT. International guests have entered a debate on 20 April during a unique event on International Earth Day. And on 22 April, we will go and clean up the Dutch beaches together!
Clips of this action will be broadcast on National Geographic Channel.
