April 19, Time2ACT!

Month of the Earth on the island of Terschelling

National Geographic, well known for its attention to faraway countries and cultures, this time turns to the Dutch landscape for inspiration. Take the Wadden Area: the largest uninterrupted nature reserve in Europe that partly lies in the Netherlands! At this very location, International Earth Day will be the starting point for a long-term project: the Month of the Earth with, among other things, the unique ‘Speaking Landscape’ project.

This project contains a cycling route along enormous yellow frames – the trademark image that contributed to National Geographic’s global success – functioning as windows to this very special natural area. The gigantic close-up pictures that nature photographer Ruben Smit took on the island of Terschelling turn this project into an unforgettable experience. It is one of the many activities during the Month of the Earth, which will see its official opening by Dutch singer-songwriter Wende Snijders on 19 April.
